Curriculum

Ryecroft Primary Academy believes that every child is entitled to enjoy their childhood. Children should be valued, cared for and nurtured in all aspects of their life and learning. Children should be encouraged to develop their full potential in a stimulating and caring environment.

We aim to provide a broad, balanced and relevant to all our pupils as well as engaging and interesting for staff. This is achieved through a skills based approach to learning that allows the children to develop a range of core skills and then go on to use and apply their skills in all aspects of their learning in order to reach their full potential. As part of the curriculum each half term the children are provided with extended opportunities that allow them to develop a sense of moral purpose, values and understanding of their own and wider community, country and other cultures. These include:

  • As part of the curriculum each half term the children are provided with an educational visit or a visitor to the school to help then understand the topic in greater depth.

How we teach your children to read and write

Every child deserves success right from the start. We know that the sooner children learn to read, the greater their success at school. This is why we put reading at the heart of what we do.

We use a teaching programme called Read Write Inc. to teach our children to read and write.

During this time, we group children by their reading ability for 30 minutes and re-assess children every half-term so we can place them in the group where they will make the most progress. We provide extra daily one-to-one sessions for children who need a bit of a boost to keep up.

More information can be found here at the Read Write Inc. website.

Ryecroft Primary Academy is a member of the Northern Education Trust.
We constantly focus on standards as we understand outcomes are paramount. Our decision making is driven entirely by what is best for children. By doing this we enhance the life chances of the children and young people in our care.
